Showing up, Imperfectly

Showing up, Imperfectly

Mineral of the Month January: Agate! Reading Showing up, Imperfectly 3 minutes

Happy New Year, Geophiles! I hope your Holidays were great, fun, relaxing, and everything you wanted them to be. Now it's time to get busy with our 2024 goals.

Its 2024 now. A new Year, a new beginning for alot of us. The start of a new year always has me jazzed about life, my business, the world, because it feels like a start over. Like, last year is gone and now we can really do some good work.

While I'm not much of a goal or resolution setter, my intentions this year are to elevate my jewelry line by becoming proficient in several different stone-setting and metalsmithing techniques. Which have already begun to sneak into the shop in the form of the chunky textured bezels and tube-set brilliant cut stones.

My biggest intention of all this year, is showing up more. In fact, my motto right now is "Show up everyday, imperfectly". Over the last few years, I've been in a jewelry business program that pushes making yourself a brand and finding your brand voice and how you talk to customers. I tried so many different things to attract customers, but nothing seemed to work and it all felt fake and inauthentic. In the fall, I experienced a couple big loses that really made me grieve and not want to work at all. In fact, I didn't want to show up again until just recently.

All that to say, I'm simplifying my marketing and going back to basics. I'm not a company, I'm an artist. I'm one person, who makes jewelry and does ALL the things in her business. Though I will continue to send emails, post on social, and be around the markets, but I'm going to show up as me. You're going to hear MY voice and read MY writing because that's all I know. It's much easier and less stressful to show up as myself than a "brand".

Owning a business is a wild ride and one I'm proud and excited to be on. Sitting at my bench, creating items and obsessing over getting the perfect finish is what I love most and I hope you will continue to follow along. Thank you so much for reading and have a wonderful day!
